Terracotta Roof with Integrated BirdHouse by Klaas Kulken
In an attempt to increase bird population in the cities and villages, Klaas Kulken has designed Terracotta Roof with integrated birdhouse. This design came to real after consultation with Vogelbescherming Nederland (Dutch organization concerning the protection of birds), basically it merges basic terracotta roof tile with archetypal shape of a house. It looks pretty cool, doesn’t it? There are some birdhouses above your head and it blends perfectly with the roof.
This project wants to contribute to the increase of bird population by providing a comfortable nest for them. Inside this birdhouse, underneath the roof tile, there’s nesting basket made of wood and bird screen. This basket offers great ventilation while preventing the bird to move from other places underneath your roof, thus, making it easy to clean after a breeding period. This time, all those birds don’t need to crawl under rooftiles to build a nest, they have their own cozy cottage, it’s a safe place to raise their chicks.
